What would life be like without a driver’s license? Some things – like going to pick up groceries – will become less convenient. Others – like going to and from your workplace – may become impossible. If you’re facing a driver’s license suspension, you should fight it with everything you’ve got.

We’re Colwell, Colwell & Petroccione, LLP, and we can help. With a combined 20 years of experience as public defenders and private counsel, we know the law from both sides, and our added perspective can work to your benefit.

Is Your Driver’s License Suspended “Pending Prosecution”?

If so, there isn’t much an attorney can do between now and the time you go to court. You may be entitled to receive a restricted or “hardship” license. Furthermore, we can minimize the impact on your driving privileges by requesting an early hearing and by arguing forcefully in your defense.

If your license has not yet been suspended or revoked, maybe it doesn’t have to be. If we can keep your charges from adding “points” to your driver’s license, then your current charges may not trigger a driver’s license suspension. And they won’t put you at greater risk of losing your license in the future, either.

Choosing the Right Charge, and Pleading Your Penalties Down

We regularly handle driver’s license suspension proceedings during DWI defense. One way to decrease the length of your suspension is to argue your charges down from DWI to a “DWAI” – driving while ability impaired. While a DWI will lead to a six-month suspension, DWAI will only lead to three.

We can also help you get a conditional license, so you can at least keep driving to work and other necessary locations. Of course, your case will depend on your specific charges and your specific circumstances. But whatever has put your license in danger, We have the experience and trial skills to help.
