Returning NY Jet Joe McKnight was placed under arrest in New Jersey last week for several traffic unpaid warrants after he was made to pull over by the police. According to police Chief Steve Gallagher, last Tuesday morning, McKnight was made to pull over in the Township of Hanover as the player on his day off from camp based at Cortland, for he changed lanes without making signals. After McKnight pulled over, the police discovered that he had two outstanding warrants: (1) failure to have an insurance card in Summit, N.J.; and (2) failure to observe a NY traffic violation in Springfield.

McKnight was arrested and he later posted bail amounting to $320; for the amount of the warrants and he was released with charged for making an unsafe lane change and not having an insured vehicle. After the accident, McKnight returned to the Jets but has not been practicing since last Friday as he complained of concussion-like symptoms after he was hit during a game. Since then, he has been experiencing cramping issues.

As the team’s 4th round draft pick out in So Calif in 2012, McKnight has been the Jets’ primary kick returner for the last two seasons. He returned with two kickoffs for touchdowns and earned a franchise-record 107-yarder in 2011 against Baltimore which also stands as the team’s longest game. McKnight, age 25, is the most recent of the Jets to run back to deal with legal issues. It will be recalled that Mike Goodson was arrested on drug and weapons possession charges last May along with a friend in New Jersey. A grand jury heard the case last June where Goodson made a no-guilty plea.

Goodson is placed on the did not report reserve list, and it is not known when he will return to the team. The jet player was made to pull over by the traffic officer for over-speeding and changing his lanes without making a signal last July 30. They discovered two other unpaid outstanding warrants which according to the police report were for failure to pay a fine of $200 after not presenting any proof of insurance and failure to pay for a ticket amounting to $120 for not observing a traffic signal in Springfield, New York. New

McKnight was brought to the police station and released with a bail of $320, the combined price of the tickets. This amount included a summons for an unsafe lane change and uninsured motor vehicle. The fourth-round season of 2010 pick did not have a pleasant offseason as he failed his conditioning test in the training camp. He was not able to practice last Monday as he was complaining of a concussion.

In most cases, McKnight would be on the fringe of not making the roster. McKnight served as the primary New York kick returner from last season where he averaged around 27.5 yards for every return, becoming number 3 in the NFL. Last season, the campaign of 6 – 10 had been very tumultuous and this season does not seem to get any better for the Jets.
